Is 'making a little more sense' correct English usage?

What I am trying to say by 'making a little more sense' is that explanation I am hearing/reading is helping me improve my understanding over the subject but only by a small amount, not to the level of fully understanding the subject. In other words, I am going from completely ignorant to have some understanding over the subject.
