How to replace nth character occurrence with another character Python.

I need to change all "rn" characters in greater than nth position with ""
for eg:

"2019rnrnrnrnrnrnrn2020"
need to convert this as (where n = 3)
"2019rnrnrn2020"

Is there any better way in python to do this or in regex?

Please help..!!
