I do understand that the Greek letter used as a symbol for pi should not be capitalized, but I don't know an easy way to write the symbol for Pi, so I want to spell it in English.
The sentence that looked weird to me was
Jeff Dean's PIN is the last 4 digits of pi.
Seems like a proper noun.
