"Bookstand" is sometimes used, especially for something like a large dictionary.

Would you mind posting a photograph, or a link to a page displaying such a stand? Books come in various sizes and I don't see why a stand that accommodates one large book can't accommodate two half-sized books, or why a shelf that holds a book lying down can't hold several books standing up. You might be referring to specific terminology for something that is intended to (as opposed to capable of) hold only one book for functional or religious reasons - seeing such a table in its intended physical context would be help.

A pulpit.
Pulpit is a raised stand for preachers in a Christian church. [..]
Most pulpits have one or more book-stands for the preacher to rest his
or her bible, notes or texts upon. [..]
Equivalent platforms for speakers are the bema (bima, bimah) of
Ancient Greece and Jewish synagogues, and the minbar of Islamic
mosques.

By the description you post, a pulpit may have one or more book-stands... Therefore a pulpit is not the word for a book-stand.
