How do I use dotnet pack to create a self-contained application

I build and pack my solution with:
dotnet pack ./MySolution.sln
One of the project is a class library which I need to run on deployment. I run it like this:
dotnet MyApp.dll
I get an error:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly
'Microsoft.Extensions.Configuration.Abstractions, Version=2.1.1.0,
Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=adb9793829ddae60'. The system cannot
find the file specified.
I think I need to pack a self-contained application but I can't figure out how to do this with the pack command. I can use publish but then I don't have everything in the nupkg file
