Mounting a CIFS share on the server that is exporting CIFS
I'm trying to do a mount of a cifs share on the same server (centos 7) that is exporting it. I'm using a command like:
sudo mount -t cifs -o domain=<mydomain>,user=<myusername>,uid=$USER //localhost/testfileset /mnt/bewaretheleopard
also, I tried the actual IP of the machine in place of localhost. I'm using Samba version 4.6.13.
The mount appears to succeed, and I can ls files.
If I create a new file though, then it locks up the terminal (had to close it down) and umount was only possible with the -l option.
By comparison, it was possible to mount and use properly, the share if I connected to a different node in our cluster (that presents the same shared file system).
The mount point was not part of the shared file system and not part of any share.
On the topic of why I'm trying to do this. I'm trying to figure out the cause of slow CIFS performance. To understand if it is network related or related to CIFS.
Cheers
