I want to create a function that only answer if the message was sent to an specific channel. I'm using the following code:

def feedback(self):
if slack_client.api_call("channels.info", channel='G5GM3S5KZ'):
return "Am I in the correct channel?"
else:
pass

But my if statement is only returning True. What i did wrong?

  • Your app is apparently only retrieving the information for a specific channel from the Slack API, which I assume is not what you want to do. If you want to react to messages being posted to a channel you want to look into the RTM API features of slackclient. See here: slackapi.github.io/python-slackclient/real_time_messaging.html
