Angularjs unit testing modal function rendered inside modal component

I have the following modal component code
angular.module('components')
.component('modal', {
bindings:{
modalInstance: '<',
resolve: '=',
dismiss: '&',
close: '&'
},
controller: controller,
templateUrl: 'template.html'
});
controller.$inject = ;
function controller() {
var ctrl = this;
ctrl.closeModal = closeModal;
ctrl.$onInit = function(){
};
ctrl.modalInstance.rendered.then(function(){
testFunction();
});
}
To open the above modal I use
$uibModal.open({
component: 'modal',
backdrop: 'static'
});
The modal works perfectly but my issue is in unit testing. When I try to unit test it I get
TypeError: undefined is not a function (evaluating 'ctrl.modalInstance.rendered.then
I have tried testing using the following code
var modal = {
rendered: jasmine.createSpy('modal.rendered').and.returnValue({ result: { then: jasmine.createSpy('modal.result.then') } })
};
var injectables = {
};
var bindings = {
modalInstance : modal,
resolve : resolve
};
controller = $componentController('modal', injectables, bindings);
controller.$onInit();

to mock promise add $q.when: and.returnValue($q.when({ result: { then: jasmine.createSpy('modal.result.then')) and $scope.$digest in test to resolve it
