“place that I need to search” or “place where I need to search”

1

What's the correct usage for the following sentence:

"I haven't found my watch. The last place that I need to search is the living room."
"I haven't found my watch. The last place where I need to search is the living room."

I'm having a little problem understanding the usage of "search" and the idea of place in that sentence.
Cheers, folks!

The "that version" does seem more natural and correct than the "where version; however, the where is a like a more specific "that" and can be used. I don't see anything technically wrong with either, and both would be easily understood and accepted by many.

(For a month, I thought this was a single-word request (a word meaning 'place that I need to search'), so I've been revisiting this since the day you created this, thinking someone would give a word meaning this. I also did my own research, hoping to maybe answer it.

In case you're curious to THAT, what a single word would be for a search space (hey, there's an answer), my answer would have been 'niche', which means something like 'hole that needs filling, often with a special object'. It's not a perfect answer to a question you didn't ask, but it's what I've got besides search space.

But, I reread it today and noticed it's a grammar thing. So hopefully my response answers your question somewhat.)
