Labelling a Log-scale Color Bar
I am producing a map and this map is broken up into small districts. I shade these districts according to the percentage of people with the surname Smith who speak a given language. At the top of the graph I have the surname with the language in brackets after it. At the bottom, I have a Color Bar. The Color Bar shows how white corresponds to 0% and red with 100%.
Under the Color Bar I have the following text:
% locally of Smiths who speak the given language.
This informs the viewer that the Color Bar relates to percentages and they can see its linear nature.
However, I would like to use a log scale instead. In this case the map is shaded according to the number of people per 100,000 with the given language. And the Color Bar now looks like this:
However I can't think of a good textual description for this. What would you recommend? Something like this maybe:
Number of Smiths per 100,000, speaking this language locally.
