What would SPARQL return

-2

Assuming there are 4 RDF triplestores and RDF prefixes have already been defined:

ex:Tom foaf:knows ex:Jerry

ex:Jerry foaf:interest “cheese”

ex:Tom foaf:interest “traps”

ex:Jerry rdfs:subClassOf dbo:animal

What would the SPARQL query below return (assuming these are in table format)?

PREFIX foaf: <http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/>

SELECT ?x

{?x foaf:interest ?interest}

  • well, you should learn the terminology: "4 RDF triple stores" - clearly, not - this are 4 RDF triples. And did you read a SPARQL tutorial? Or even more obvious, did you try the query on the data? It's by the way trivial if you already know that SPARQL is all about pattern matching. I mean, even without knowing SPARQL, one would think that the variables are just placeholders and we search for RDF triples matching the pattern

  • I think I know but I just want to make sure. Is it cheese and trap

  • well, no...you do SELECT ?x, so what is returned? Obviously, all bindings of ?x matching triples in the RDF data.
